Emmett Tyrrell, Elliot Abrams, Matt Drudge, and the other tapeworms who joined in the coordinated big lie attack on Newt Gingrich should just shut up. In their attack they have demonstrated an appalling lack of integrity and a commitment to conserving nothing more than the status quo. Combined, these clowns cannot muster the veracity of Baghdad Bob.

If you have been a benchwarmer on a championship team there are two ways you can talk about it. You can revel in the glory and overstate your role in victory or you can tell of your respect for the players who won and the privilege of supporting their effort. Rick Santorum has chosen to overstate his role in the accomplishments of the Reagan Revolution and and Newt Gingrich's Contract With America. To hear Rick tell it today he was the quarterback who threw the winning touchdown and Gingrich was a third string bench warmer. If Rick Santorum were a statesman, he would drop out of the race and go back the bench where he was when Reagan and Gingrich were on the field fighting and winning.

Today marks the 39th anniversary of the Supreme Court's infamous decision in the Roe V. Wade which struck down all state restrictions on abortion. This decision remains today one of the most egregious abortions of the constitution ever committed by the Supreme Court. Barack Obama thinks the court got it right. He is a constitutional illiterate.

Looks like the memo went out to claim victory for Romney as the ultimate capitalist and pretend that he will be immune to Obama's attacks in the fall. One has to wonder: when the same intellectually bankrupt arguments are repeated ad nauseum, is it because of impenetrable ignorance, or is it due to a lack of integrity?

Fundamentally, Mitt Romney's campaign is based upon a fraud. I don't mean it is fraudulent in the sense that he says he is pro-life when he has a pro-abortion record. The real fraud is not that his job creation record is dubious at best. The fraud is the idea that electing Mitt Romney will make any real difference in the direction America is headed.

When Newt Gingrich criticized Mitt Romney's performance at Bain Capital the conservative establishment responded like a pack of hyenas tearing apart a carcass. Newt was denounced as making leftist criticisms and attacking capitalism. Jeffrey Kuhner claimed dynamic capitalism was a virtue. The reaction is an example of the shallow thinking that keeps conservatives from being effective.

When Newt Gingrich fired off an attack on Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital the response from the rightwing punditry was as thoughtless as it was predictable. Newt accused Romney of looting companies and undermining capitalism. In reflexive reaction, various “conservatives” have decried Newt's comments as an attack on free market capitalism using the language of the left. It is no more valid to claim that Gingrich's criticisms are an attack on capitalism than to suggest that condemning pornography is an attack on capitalism.
